Happy New Year!
I’m a little late getting this out there, but I wanted to wish those that are celebrating a happy and healthy Rosh Hashanah! Happy New Year, this is going to be a great one!
Now, I could go on and on about how this past year has been so incredibly amazing, and share all of the fantastic things that happened, but I can sum it up in one word. Well, one name: Aaron. It’s truly been an amazing year and Solomon and I are so incredibly blessed. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us!
We celebrated with some time in synagogue, some ridiculously huge family dinners and some time together as a family. I did my fair share of cooking for the holidays, but am most proud of my challahs! I make challahs almost every Shabbat, but these are extra special. Instead of looking like this while rising:
They looked a bit like this while rising:

Here’s my super simple recipe for making sweet raisin challahs for Rosh Hashanah.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. salt
- 4 tbsp. canola oil
- 4 1/2 cups bread flour
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp. honey
- 2 1/4 tsp. yeast
- 1/4 cup golden raisins
- 1 egg yolk
Combine everything except for the raisins and egg yolk in your bread machine. Add the raisins when the machine beeps for mix ins. Divide the dough in half, and follow the directions here to braid it into rounds. Allow the rounds to rise for about 3 hours, then wash with egg yolk and a little bit of water. Cook in a 350* oven for 15 minutes. Put another egg wash on the breads and bake for another 15 minutes.
Share with your family and friends and celebrate together! Then try not to get a stomachache from eating too much white bread and drinking too much wine!
Here’s to a great weekend and an AMAZING new year!!
